Reuse Before Recycle

Reuse Our Bottles of Wine

An invisible 400 liters in every bottle, made visible, one reuse at a time.

Reuse before recycle. Every Casa Blaví bottle can live many lives, as a water carafe, a vessel, a keeper of memory. Each reuse avoids the hidden water of making a new bottle, and turns the drinker toward the same scarce resource the vineyard depends on.

Measuring impact at three scales

We use conservative, transparent assumptions so the numbers stay credible.

  • ✚Chile population ~19.96 million (2026).
  • ✚Wine consumption ~20–23 liters per person per year (~27–31 standard bottles).
  • ✚Average household size ~3.1 people.
  • ✚Household tap water ~170 L/person/day.
  • ✚Recommended drinking water ~1.5–2.5 L/day for adults (many Chileans fall short).
  • ✚Per-bottle packaging/process water savings from reuse vs. new + recycle: 1–5 liters direct, plus larger indirect/energy savings. If the bottle replaces single-use plastic, the avoided footprint is far larger (bottled water often carries 3–17+ liters of water footprint per liter delivered).

One person

~30 bottles of wine per year. If 50% are reused at least a few times, as water bottles or returned for refill, instead of discarded or downcycled:

Direct process-water savings: ~15–75 liters per year.

If the same bottle becomes the daily water bottle and raises intake by 0.5 L/day: +182 liters of tap water drunk (health + habit change) while displacing plastic bottles.

Awareness effect: the person now 'sees' the 400 liters that went into each original wine bottle every time they refill it.

An abstract, memorable measure for education

People do not feel '379 virtual liters.' They feel a shower, a day's drinking water, or a drought. We created one simple unit a wine brand can print on the bottle or show in an app:

1 Reused Bottle = 1 Unidad de Conciencia Hídrica (Water Awareness Unit).

  • ✚The 400 liters that went into the wine (mostly vineyard blue + green water).
  • ✚Plus the small process savings from not making a new bottle.
  • ✚Plus the tap water the person now drinks from that bottle instead of plastic.

Equivalents that work in Chile

1

1 reused bottle ≈ 4–5 short showers avoided in packaging energy/water terms, or one person's drinking water for 2–3 days.

2

10 reused bottles ≈ the blue-water volume that could irrigate a few extra vines in a dry year, or one family's drinking water for a month.

3

National campaign: 'If every household reused 10 bottles a year, we would free the equivalent of X days of Santiago's drinking-water supply from packaging.'

A scarcity multiplier for central Chile

We add a scarcity multiplier for central Chile (Maipo, Colchagua, etc.) because blue water there is over-allocated. The unit is not scientifically perfect; it is a teaching tool that makes an invisible 400-liter footprint tangible, and ties personal hydration to the same scarce resource the vineyard uses.

The Five-Reuse Reward

How the Gift is Earned

For every bottle of Casa Blaví you reuse, photograph it in your profile. After five reuses, the House gifts you an elegant metallic special-edition Casa Blaví wine bottle cap.

I

Reuse

Finish a bottle and give it a second life, as a water carafe, a vessel, a keeper of memories.

II

Photograph

Capture the bottle in its new life and upload the photo to your profile.

III

Accumulate

Each photo is one reuse. Five photos seal your progress.

IV

Receive

After five reuses, the House gifts you the metallic special-edition cap, free.

The cap is not sold through this promotion. It is earned, one reuse at a time, and sealed by the House as a token of honor.

The Special-Edition Cap

The Metallic Casa Blaví Bottle Cap

Brushed metal, gilded crest, a seal worthy of the bottle it crowns.

Each cap is machined from brushed stainless steel and crowned with the Casa Blaví crest in metallic gold, the tower, the grapes, the fleur-de-lis, and the banner that carries our name.

It is built to last a lifetime of refills, a small monument to the idea that a bottle should never be used only once.

U$D 30
A portion of every cap sold supports the Water Research Institute.
Free after five reuses

Upload five reuse photos to your profile and the House gifts you this cap, sealed and sent.

A Call to the Vineyards of Chile

We invite the vineyards of Chile to join this initiative. Reuse before recycle, measure the hidden water in every bottle, and reward those who carry the habit forward. The cap is our seal, the water is our shared inheritance.
